2001 FIRST ENERGY CHALLENGE #2

Synergistic installations--Electric, gas, cable, and telephone companies each complete similar tasks to connect new customers to existing infrastructure. Customers are charged hook-up fees and it becomes a responsibility of the utilities to explore cost containment opportunities. Examine each company's procedures, identify the similarities and make recommendations as to how we can have synergistic installations.

How can we accommodate the customer's demands and strategically place the connections all at one junction? Current Procedures:  Since 80% of our hook-ups involve new construction, on-site inspection is required by one of our employees prior to installing the service. Gas, cable, and telephone companies also are installing lines, is there any way to coordinate and determine the best practices to reduce labor costs and duplication of lines.
